Signs of Teen Stress

Almost every teen has felt some sort of stress, and many are stressed out. It is estimated that about 10% of all teenagers suffer from an anxiety disorder.

Causes of Teen Stress
- School work (68%)
- Parents (56%)
- Problems with friends (52%)
- Romantic relationships (48%)
- Drugs in the neighborhood (48%)

The study also reports how the teens cope with their stress. For boys about
- 25% avoid or refuse to deal with their stress
- 23% seek ways to distract themselves away from their stress
- 17% seek support
- 35% actively try to reduce their stress

When stress comes to the girls about
- 19% avoid or refuse with their stress
- 14% seek ways to distract themselves away from their stress
- 22% seek support
- 45% actively try to remove their stress

Thus boys more often try to avoid stress while girls look for support and actively try to reduce their stress. As girls say they experience more stress than boys, resulting of their relationships with boys and friendship with girls. Boys attributed their stress to authority figures

The most common teen stressors deal with include the following:
- dating [*]
- moving to a new home and school
- too high expectations [*]
- tests and homework [*]
- sports and optional activities [*]
- social backwardness [*]
- employment
- too much things to do [*]
- family problems including abuse and alcohol [*]
- owning a car
- having a boy friend or girlfriend
- relationships with friends [*]
- money problems [*]
- not achieving something that you really wanted [*]
